I have not checked my email in awhile due to my exam preparation and literally living in the library. But this blog entry is in response to a particular email that you sent to me, and is a very serious matter that I would like to address and also apologize for. Even though we have sorted these things out, and talked, you said that writing something down is different then an oral meeting.
I just only recently got that email from you, regarding a re-stating of what is required from me. I fully and utterly agree with what you said and I will take that strike as something that is my fault. I have tried to work as hard as I can, and for the most part when I have been late, I have called in. But you are right, I need to get more in the comfort of communication. For that I am sorry. I apologize for not writing in my blog on a consistent basis. But more importantly I realize that the fault lies in me NOT doing something that was promised. I need to be more realistic, and if I REALLY can't accomplish something in the time that I said I could, I should just be honest and let you know. I have made mistakes in this area, but these low level expectations, though crucial and critical for the employee, can be worked out. By that I mean, I can improve.
The primary reason I have not been keeping it updated is becasue I thought, that's exactly what a blog is, an update. If nothing particularly new has happened, what can I say? Also, if I have said everything orally in the last meeting, shall I write down everything again?
I do feel your frustration concerning the time when I said I would update my blog on a certain weekend, but I failed to do so. I am sorry for this lack of responsibility. I do believe that I did send a follow up email about how I was feeling, and that I was really sick but more importantly had several academic pressures at that moment.
Also, as far as the PHP, SQL classes go, I did register for several, but it so happens that some require prerequisites which I was not able to attend since some fell on certain study group dates during the school year. I plan to make new arrangements to make sure that I attend these classes, and then schedule things around those for future class dates. Also, I have looked at online material for some classes. Alot of the begginning classes covered material which I already know, or material tha I have recently learned through a self-study process of php, once I purchased that book.
I am sorry AJ for this lack in communication I realize that it IS one of the things that is contingent on my probationary period and I WILL improve in this area. I will try my best to write in my blog on a timely basis. It is really not problem for me to fill them out. I just don't know what to say sometimes. Maybe if we could discuss specific things that you would like to hear, I would really appreciate it. ( wel already discussed this at the meeting so I think I have a good idea of what you want to know)
I have alot of time this summer on the weekends, and I see that as ample time for me to make up for mistakes. I realize that you are flexible to change, but not to the fact that I am NOT doing something that I SAID I would do. Thank you for giving me time to rest as well as time to come back, I am sure that it will be a great summer.
I am really looking forward the digging deeper into web development work as well as getting involved with the ITA summer camp coming up. I will be sure to update this blog when advancements in my work have been made.

Goals for today:
My goal for today is to assist Pacal in the classroom. I will let the majority of questions concerning technicalities be directed to Pacal. My main purpose to to help students complete their work, because I have heard that some of them are behind. I primarily will help with the grammar or the clarity of what they are trying to present. I want to start off by introducing my self and then trying to get invovled with their work. My goal is to get all their names by the end.

I am so sorry I haven't been updating this. It really slipped my mind since I was so involved with other tasks.
Okay first things first, I have really got a hang of how blogs should be written since it IS really an art to be both informative and concise at the same time. Also pictures speak a thousand words, so a fusion of simple but specific wordage coupled with valuable thousand word elements(pictures) make for a great blog post, especially a post that displays instructions or an update. Google had many great posts and I read almost all of them in order to glean some blog writing style.
Also, I have come to the conclusion that Vista sucks, because I really cannot manipulate images in the way that I want in order to upload them onto the wiki posts. Vista has a snipping tool but this did not really help for the type of things that I was trying to do. So for the sake of time, I switched machines and was able to accomplish everything using a mac!
In the future when writing blog posts for more site updates, this is what I will do.
I have been spending the rest of my time with PHP coding. I purchased a really sweet PHP book that has helped we a lot with different things, and is more informative and detailed then W3 schools. I have also talked to Drew about the RSS feed problem. I think that I have a good idea what to do now, after much experimenting and working through it. He also did not know what to do at first so he recommended to me looking into simple xml, since PHP has three methods of parsing xml files. One of these three methods is through simple XML. I was trying explore the use of that method, but Drew had no time to first learn it himself and then explain it to me. SO once I am able to produce an un-formatted display of certainxml elements and the RSS feed, I will just give that code to Drew so he can help me format it. He has also an additional project, but as always, one step at a time!
Other than that, I have learned a lot of things about PHP unrelated to RSS feeding, but still I am positive will come in handy. I have made many detours but I finally will be able to solve this puzzle.
I will keep you posted faithful blog, until next time.

Hey is me,
Haven't written in a long time, that's cuz I have been so engrossed with a particular problem. I know this may not be a good thing anymore, but I have been so focused on thsi one issue, that it has creeped into my thought life outside of work time. I really enjoy this which is why it is taking alot of out of me. I have gotten REALLY understand php now. I strongly feel that with any programming language, when start processing things outside of the actual programming, you are acutally then starting to learn.
My main problem is still trying to get a list of links to display on a simple page using php code, and these take me straight to the newest blog updates of the ita blog. Now I know this requires some sort of load method, that loads an xml file. But that is not as hard the implementing of the code in this particular situation. I literally have spent hours so far, reviewing the W3 schools reviews. Alot of the code is the same but as Java, but I am "stuck" so I am now willing to go get some help. If not from Drew then from my instructor in the comp sci department. But this is now a personal problem that I just need to personally solve, because it will irritate me for a long time lol.
In any case, I think that in the future and this WILL happen alot I expect to be "stuck" several times until I REALLY start to understand fully what I am doing. When I encounter these stuck places I think I will just use that time to do "other" things as in not just coding, in order to make sure other things get done, as in my other projects.
All in all, I felt quite unproductive on Saturday, since I spent a huge chunk of the day, surfing the Internet for possible solutions to this RSS feed mystery and reviewing php code concepts, foreach loops, and a very different array structure style of php when compared to java. I am also going to STOP comparing things to JAVA code because it seems to me that it is becoming counterproductive. I will just accept that fact that both ARE different, and will lean php for what it is.
When I was starting to get bored/frustrated, lol I did some javascript tutorials on w3, so not waste of a Saturday!
I need to get back to the ITA blog, permit updater post NEEDS to be written.

It has been some time since I made my last entry. I am sorry for that but, I have actually been USING 100% of my work time to take care of things.
I really don't have much to say since I have not done anything substantial worth of note,yet :). I am however currently updating the Ita blog to give mention of the new things that are up on the website. I am satisfied at the jobs that I am given and I willing to do whatever it takes to get loose ends in the ITA program tied up.
Over the past few days, I have spent MANY hours reviewing html, some Javascript and a bit of php. I am more confident now on how these things relate. I was really excited when I successfully implemented a piece of preexisting Javascript code that allowed me to let it "snow" on my page. I am very comfortable with javascript since it is identical to actual JAVA code which is something much more advanced and powerful since it is used not only for web development but to create stand-alone software applications. I have experience with java and the syntax is identical to what is used in javascript. Since javascript like php is interpreted and not compiled as I have read, there are some minor differences.
However, just to get some more practice I was able to change all the snow flakes "*" to "danielisawesome" and that was blast. I was also introduced to Jquerry today which is really nice because now I can actually have a library of really interesting dynamic work that can be done using Javascript. I also enjoy javascript because in another wiki that I am setting up with confluence, there is a need for some dynamic things as in reminder pop-ups or some sort of log in system. Javascript allows me to do this.

There are so many things running through my head right now because I have taken so much information in today.
the information that I took in was more than what I had just learned from AJ, but more so what I had taught myself by processing and making many connections. I am becoming a master of the wiki, and it is now very very simple for me to use. If you would like me to do future administrative work or continue to update the Wiki histories, I would be glad to. I would however in my free time like explore some more advanced features of this wiki. I know that there is much more it can do than what I have been working with.
I am particularly interested in it because of the fact that I working with another wiki for my other job. It is called Confluence and is both similar and different in layout and syntax, however, the general idea remains the same so I can carry over many skills to this other environment, and for that I am glad.
I think that I got the a small part of the beginning of a crash course update to the website, as well as all the intricate unseen work that it takes to make it work. I understand the amount of pain it would have taken to make something like that work. I have written several programs in java, many simple and a few that are quite complicated with many different classes and lines and lines of code. I understand how hard it can be to fix bugs, to test incrementally or to even look for bugs that do not occur in compile time, as well as reworking ideas that may not have been the best. I have a strong feeling that there is ALOT left for me to catch up. I am pumped, pencil sharp and I am ready to go. It is just a matter of time before I can start contributing.
The wiki histories has taken me longer than I expected, but I am being very thorough, making sure to be as accurate as possible. (This is also a good learning opportunity for me.) This is paying of since there are subtle differences in unit schedules etc.
I enjoy the work atmosphere and I am getting to know some of my coworkers well.
All in all, I think that I have and will continue to fit in quite nicely.
If I could have any wish right now at this moment, what would it be?
I wish that I could stop time, so that I can finish a HUGE amount of work, Calculus preparation as well as many errands that must get done before Spring Break. So much work...so little time, but God is good. Untill next time faithfull Blog. ;)

This is actually an entry for yesterday. I think it is just easier for me to leave something after the day during the next morning.
I did not really do anything substantial yesterday. I did spend a considerable amount of time trying to get my Wiscal up and running. There are so many options and trying to set repeating events can be complicated.
I was able to get a good feel for the Wiki mark-up and I clearly see how html things are heavily related to programming in php. I realize that for me to be effective in php, I must first have a strong base in what html actually is. The past two days have really been a much needed review. I also have learned new things. I have been working with Confluence which is the other wiki Network Services uses, but the mark-up is significantly different.
I really enjoy everything so far and as long as I am learning, I feel satisfied. There are still somethings that I do not understand however, but I am sure I will grasp these concepts soon.
-Bread crumb system and how it relates to the home.txt file.
-how can the layout be better organized so pages don't get "lost" as in there no visual link to some pages meaning that the user cannot acess so parts unless the exact address in known.
