It has been some time since I made my last entry. I am sorry for that but, I have actually been USING 100% of my work time to take care of things.
I really don't have much to say since I have not done anything substantial worth of note,yet :). I am however currently updating the Ita blog to give mention of the new things that are up on the website. I am satisfied at the jobs that I am given and I willing to do whatever it takes to get loose ends in the ITA program tied up.
Over the past few days, I have spent MANY hours reviewing html, some Javascript and a bit of php. I am more confident now on how these things relate. I was really excited when I successfully implemented a piece of preexisting Javascript code that allowed me to let it "snow" on my page. I am very comfortable with javascript since it is identical to actual JAVA code which is something much more advanced and powerful since it is used not only for web development but to create stand-alone software applications. I have experience with java and the syntax is identical to what is used in javascript. Since javascript like php is interpreted and not compiled as I have read, there are some minor differences.
However, just to get some more practice I was able to change all the snow flakes "*" to "danielisawesome" and that was blast. I was also introduced to Jquerry today which is really nice because now I can actually have a library of really interesting dynamic work that can be done using Javascript. I also enjoy javascript because in another wiki that I am setting up with confluence, there is a need for some dynamic things as in reminder pop-ups or some sort of log in system. Javascript allows me to do this.

There are so many things running through my head right now because I have taken so much information in today.
the information that I took in was more than what I had just learned from AJ, but more so what I had taught myself by processing and making many connections. I am becoming a master of the wiki, and it is now very very simple for me to use. If you would like me to do future administrative work or continue to update the Wiki histories, I would be glad to. I would however in my free time like explore some more advanced features of this wiki. I know that there is much more it can do than what I have been working with.
I am particularly interested in it because of the fact that I working with another wiki for my other job. It is called Confluence and is both similar and different in layout and syntax, however, the general idea remains the same so I can carry over many skills to this other environment, and for that I am glad.
I think that I got the a small part of the beginning of a crash course update to the website, as well as all the intricate unseen work that it takes to make it work. I understand the amount of pain it would have taken to make something like that work. I have written several programs in java, many simple and a few that are quite complicated with many different classes and lines and lines of code. I understand how hard it can be to fix bugs, to test incrementally or to even look for bugs that do not occur in compile time, as well as reworking ideas that may not have been the best. I have a strong feeling that there is ALOT left for me to catch up. I am pumped, pencil sharp and I am ready to go. It is just a matter of time before I can start contributing.
The wiki histories has taken me longer than I expected, but I am being very thorough, making sure to be as accurate as possible. (This is also a good learning opportunity for me.) This is paying of since there are subtle differences in unit schedules etc.
I enjoy the work atmosphere and I am getting to know some of my coworkers well.
All in all, I think that I have and will continue to fit in quite nicely.
If I could have any wish right now at this moment, what would it be?
I wish that I could stop time, so that I can finish a HUGE amount of work, Calculus preparation as well as many errands that must get done before Spring Break. So much work...so little time, but God is good. Untill next time faithfull Blog. ;)

This is actually an entry for yesterday. I think it is just easier for me to leave something after the day during the next morning.
I did not really do anything substantial yesterday. I did spend a considerable amount of time trying to get my Wiscal up and running. There are so many options and trying to set repeating events can be complicated.
I was able to get a good feel for the Wiki mark-up and I clearly see how html things are heavily related to programming in php. I realize that for me to be effective in php, I must first have a strong base in what html actually is. The past two days have really been a much needed review. I also have learned new things. I have been working with Confluence which is the other wiki Network Services uses, but the mark-up is significantly different.
I really enjoy everything so far and as long as I am learning, I feel satisfied. There are still somethings that I do not understand however, but I am sure I will grasp these concepts soon.
-Bread crumb system and how it relates to the home.txt file.
-how can the layout be better organized so pages don't get "lost" as in there no visual link to some pages meaning that the user cannot acess so parts unless the exact address in known.

Goals: I just wanted to get a feel for the Wiki and I did get some practice when I created a new page with the entire list of all ITA staff jobs. There will be more that will come up I am sure.
I also wanted to finish some more PHP tutorials, but I did not get enough time to finish.
I was able to make this blog, as well as update my personal info on the wiki!
YAY!
I still need to create my wiscall calendar and then log in my work hours there for the duration of the break.
Okay, now to the real stuff. One of my major goals of being a part of ITA is gain some solid programming experience, especially with PHP. Programming has been difficult for me in class, (CS is my major) since I had no previous programming experience. Working with PHP will help my mind better grasp the problem solving mentality that is required of programmers. In a year from now, I see myself carrying huge weight, being responsible for much of the programming behind the ITA site as well as the one responsible for creative suggestions to make the site better. I also see myself gaining speech skills, and public speaking confidence. I really would like a chance at least once, to teach a lesson to students. I also see myself understanding the system that is in place here and become a very VALUABLE member to the system for my suggestions, work contributions and personality!
For me, I am really interested in the gaming industry. I love graphic and video game technology and every once in awhile, I will try to search the latest games that have come out for various platforms including PC. I love to analyze how new advancements in technology can make the content of a game so amazing. I like RTS styles the most, and for the non-gamers, that stands for Real-Time-Strategy. Examples of these are the Age of Empires series, the Command and Conquer series, maybe Spore, or to go back farther, War Craft or Star Craft or even farther, Total Annihilation!
I am also a big SCI FI fan. I like Asimov and Critchton. I like Stargate Atlantis and Battle Star Galactica. I also like obscure sub-lot lines of Star Wars!
As far as ITA goes, I really have not been around long enough to make observations of anything bad about ITA. I will share them however if I do notice anything. I do like the new level of organization that has been brought to the ITA program. I also think that from a student perspective, it seems more like an Academy now, and now it is something to be taken more seriously.
